What is Bandwidth?

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

One of the questions that we get asked the most is “What is bandwidth and how does it relate to my website?” In the following blog, we’ll attempt to explain what exactly bandwidth is as well as why it’s important to your company and your website.

When people visit your website they are actually downloading your text and images from your web hosting server onto their computers. If you have thousands of visitors to your website, this can quickly add up. Also, whenever you send images, videos or text to your website to be hosted, this uploading also counts as bandwidth usage.

What is a Web Host?

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

If you’re new to web hosting you might be wondering, “What is a web host?” A web host is basically a server that is connected to the Internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They have server software installed that connects your website to the Internet and hosts it for you. A quality web host provider will ensure that their servers have a very limited downtime in order to make your website available at all times.

When you’re creating a website for your company, the domain name that you choose is one of the most important parts. The following is a short guide that will help you to choose the optimum domain name for your company’s website.

The most important part is choosing a domain name that is related to your business. You’ll want to choose a name that fits the products, services and message that your business offers. Why Do I Need a Host?

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

In order to make your website available to everyone on the Internet, you need a hosting company. This doesn’t have to be an expensive endeavor, however, as HostingGoneWild offers cheap hosting services that are just as good as the more expensive hosting services out there.

A hosting service is a server that is connected to the Internet at all times. Some people wonder why they can’t just host their website on their computer which is a bad idea for several reasons. First, your computer would have to be on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If the power goes out of your computer crashes, your website would be inaccessible to anyone else.
