How to Own Your Blog Outright

There is nothing quite like the freedom of owning a domain name and having a great blog.  It not only gives you a voice on the Internet, it gives you an avenue of reaching people from around the world in ways that you may never have imagined before.

The down side to setting up a blog or your own domain is that very few of us have done it before and it can be quite overwhelming if you are just getting started.  I’m about to give you some advice on setting up your own blog and if you can just listen to this one piece of advice, it will all go much better for you.

Whenever you’re ready to set up your blog, the first thing that you need to do is avoid panicking.  Setting up a blog on a domain name is one of the easiest things to do online and many of the free blog platforms have made it practically seamless.  If you can upload files to the Internet and type, you can have a blog up and running within just a few minutes.  As a matter of fact, there are also some ways that you can avoid uploading anything and set up a blog with just a few clicks of the mouse button.

Most hosting companies recognize the fact that people want to have blogs so they have made it simple to set them up.  For example, if you have a host who uses cPanel, they often install a small program called Fantastico.  What this gem of a script does is to automatically install WordPress, one of the most popular blogging platforms directly onto your server.  Incidentally, they also have a few other options if you would rather use another type of blog.

The beauty of it is, you simply need to click a few buttons, choose a password and begin blogging.  There really is nothing else to it other than that.  What could be simpler?

Many other control panels also offer this option but you’re going to need to ask your hosting provider if they automate the setup of a blog on their servers.  If they do, you’re really just a few minutes away from posting your first blog post.

If you happen to be on a server that does not offer these services, you can still set up a WordPress blog within just a few minutes.  Simply download it to your computer, upload it to your server and follow the step-by-step instructions.  There may be a little bit more involved with it, but it is still a very simple thing to do.
